The last month or so my energy and focus has shifted toward preparing to show my work at The Brentwood Art Fair as well as a month long showing at Cafe Vida in Pacific Palisades. I have been wildly building frames, and finishing them to uniquely dress my little paintings. During times like this when I surface above the energy of painting I find myself longing for a day off, a day of nothing except feeling the sun warm from the outside in and watch how the sky changes as the day moves on. The day off will come. It's good to take a short break and image what it will be like...and imaging the painting that will come rest. How are you planning a rest. Here is a poem that perhaps will guide ...
Today I’m flying low and I’m
not saying a word.
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.
The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.
But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.
Stillness. One of the doors
into the temple.
